Overall, this was a great trip and a wonderful experience for the kids. One area for improvement would be communicating expectations more clearly before and during the trip. I do not think many of the students were expecting educational activities during travel time, and they were not fully prepared for that. The same was true when traveling between locations throughout the week. Setting those expectations in advance likely would have reduced some of the frustration and resistance from the students. I understand the goal was to maximize the experience and get the most value from the trip. However, the schedule felt slightly overpacked at times. The combination of early mornings and late nights became increasingly challenging as the week progressed, both for the students and the chaperones. I also think more detailed day-to-day communication about the itinerary would have been helpful. The high-level itinerary provided before the trip was sufficient for planning purposes, but once we were on the trip, it was difficult to answer students' questions when we did not have a clear picture of the day's schedule. Providing a more detailed daily agenda would help both students and chaperones know what to expect and better prepare for each day's activities. Overall, the trip was very well organized and enjoyable, and these suggestions are intended only as opportunities to make an already great experience even better in the future.
